As an ex-electronics engineer in the Royal Navy (1978 to 1991) and then teacher in Secondary and FE sectors since 1993(teaching Mathematics, Design Technology and ICT), I fully applaud NMiTE’s mission of bringing engineering to life via solving real-world challenges.

Having spent 4 years in New Zealand teaching Electronics, Robotics and Metal Tech it is great to know that a matching can do creative experience will be explored in depth across a wide range of engineering disciplines at NMiTE for future students.

Following a week’s activities run by the Ingenuity Studio team at RNC in December of 2018, I must admit I was impressed with the challenges the team employed. This enabled our visually impaired students to successfully create potential solutions to a display engineering challenge. In turn the team learnt how we employ technology to adapt resources and make materials accessible for VI students.

Following an invitation to investigate further the studios capabilities I was asked if I might consider becoming a volunteer Ingenuity Ambassador. Happy to do so, I hope to assist as my current working commitments allow, looking forward to seeing how NMiTE develops. Hopefully my skills, knowledge and interests (Electronics, Robotics and adaptive tech) will help facilitate learners become future engineers.
